This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist looking for a new challenge in their career. We have an opportunity to specialise in Antimicrobials with the opportunity to work within Medicine or Surgery

Senior clinical pharmacist, Antimicrobials and Medicine or Surgery

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is an acute hospital with an enthusiastic, progressive and caring pharmacy department; we keep patient safety at the heart of all we do.

Due to an internal promotion of the current post holder, we have an opportunity for a current band 7 or an experienced band 6 to support the Antimicrobial Stewardship agenda and working within the clinical speciality of either Medicine or Surgery  You will be reporting to the Lead Antimicrobial Pharmacist and work closely with our other experienced band 7 Antimicrobial pharmacist. You will become a key member of the Antimicrobial Strategy Group; playing a crucial role in the implementation of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Plan, monitoring of antimicrobial prescribing, delivery of the CQUINs and providing specialist advice on prescribing of antimicrobials. There will be opportunities for attendance on ward rounds with the Consultant Microbiologists and close working with the Sepsis Lead Consultant, Infection Prevention Team including working through root cause analysis of C.Difficile infections.

Within your other specialist area, your role will be a key member of the clinical pharmacy team, working on the wards and supporting the Principal Pharmacists who lead the Medicine and Surgery divisions.

Within Medicine there will be opportunities to work on admission wards, stroke and elderly care, gastroenterology, cardiology and respiratory wards.

Within Surgery there will be opportunities for working on the surgical wards, attendance on the Acute Pain or Vascular ward rounds, visiting the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic where we have a well-recognised pharmacy presence.

If you are a motivated and compassionate individual looking for a new challenge, either of these posts could be for you. A strong team spirit and good communication will be required as well as a desire to have the patient’s safety at the foremost of everything you do.

There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and expertise and consider the prescribing course if desired, sharing your expertise with colleagues in other specialities through nurse and doctor training. It will be expected that for the right individual there are opportunities to gain experience by becoming a line manager for our junior pharmacists.

We are a progressive and forward thinking department, we put patient care first and strive to support each other and enjoy work. As a Trust we pledge to provide the best possible care, with patient safety and quality at the forefront of what we do.

If you are interested in Pharmacy career opportunities within Northampton General Hospital and do not currently meet all of the essential criteria for the band 7 post, we may be able to consider applications for a band 6 to 7 progression. Please contact us for further information.

We would be very pleased to have an informal chat or to arrange a visit  prior to applications and / or interview. Please do get in touch.
