Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine (permanent position)

We are at an exciting stage of expansion of the respiratory department

in Northampton General Hospital. If you are successful in getting one of the 3 posts to which we are recruiting, you will have the opportunity not only to get involved with our plans to expand into home NIV, thoracoscopy and setting up new ideas to support urgent referrals but also to pursue your own particular specialist interest.

Rated Good by the CQC, we have a great and ambitious team here at Northampton General. The in-patient and outpatient respiratory facilities are co-located and we pride ourselves on the friendly and supportive culture that we have developed both within the consultant team and across all the staff who contribute to our success. At present there is only 1 26 bedded in-patient ward, equipped with 4 level 1 beds and telemetry monitoring for up to a further 4 patients, but with consultant expansion a second ward is planned. You will be supported by very dedicated ward nurses and AHPs, respiratory physiologists, a team of COPD outreach nurses and physiotherapists (RESTART), a team of Macmillan nurses, secretaries and reception staff. We hope this will make your life a little easier and let you focus on being the best Consultant you can be.

We already offer specialist clinics in pleural disease, lung cancer and TB as well as bronchoscopy and EBUS services. Plans are at an advanced stage for a significant expansion of the respiratory out-patient area to accommodate our planned developments. At present, all specialist consultant physicians within the hospital support the general medical take which is focussed in a brand new 60 bedded urgent care facility, although this is a system under constant review.

You will get 10 days study leave a year, which we want you to take, so you can keep yourself on the cutting edge. Not only do we want you to develop, but we will give you up to £1k each year to help you do exactly that. We already have a strong commitment to medical student training (65 on site at any time from both Leicester and Oxford Universities with planned expansion from 2020). As an Associate Teaching Hospital for Leicester University, agreements are in place to expand our academic involvement in teaching and clinical trials research significantly over the coming years. We hope you would be part of this process.
